The Wassist Shopify app turns your store into a WhatsApp sales assistant. It answers product and policy questions from your live catalogue, helps customers find the right item, sends links that go straight to the product, and, once a customer logs in, tells them where their order is. Everything below happens inside your Shopify admin and takes about 10 minutes.

What you need

  • A Shopify store, and a staff account that can install apps
  • A phone with WhatsApp, to sign in to Wassist and to test your assistant
  • To go live on your own number: a WhatsApp Business Account, or a number you can verify. You can create one during setup, or add a number from Wassist.

1. Install the app

1

Open the listing

Go to apps.shopify.com/wassist and click Install.
2

Approve the permissions

Shopify shows what Wassist can read. All access is read-only. Wassist never changes your products, orders or customers.
3

Tell us if you're new

The app opens in your Shopify admin and asks one question:
  • I’m new to Wassist: we build a WhatsApp sales agent from your store, and you’re billed through Shopify. Most brands pick this.
  • I already have a Wassist account: connect the store to your existing account. Your agents and billing stay in the Wassist dashboard. Jump to that path.

2. Connect your account

Click Get started. A Wassist tab opens: sign in with your phone number (the code arrives on WhatsApp). Then close the tab and go back to Shopify. The app notices the link by itself within a few seconds. The home screen now shows four steps: Configure your agent, Link your account, Subscribe and Publish to WhatsApp.

3. Configure your agent

Wassist builds your agent from your store while you sign in. You’ll see Setting up your agent… for a moment. Open Configure your agent (or the Agent tab) to make it yours: Add a profile picture (your logo works well) and save.
You don’t need to paste in products, prices or policies. The agent reads them live from your store, so it’s never out of date.

4. Choose a plan

Open Subscribe and pick a plan. You approve it on Shopify’s own billing page, and charges appear on your Shopify invoice. Credits measure AI usage. Shopify’s plan page always shows the current prices, and the full breakdown is on wassist.app/pricing.

5. Test it before you go live

Chat with your assistant on Wassist’s free test number before customers see it:
  1. Open wassist.app and sign in with the same phone number.
  2. Go to Numbers, click the number under Sandbox numbers, and in Routing choose Agent → Connect agent, then pick your store’s agent.
  3. Message the sandbox number from your phone. Try “Do you have this in a medium?” or “What’s your returns policy?”
Only your own chat is affected. You can also use Test Chat on the agent’s page in the dashboard.

6. Publish to WhatsApp

Open Publish to WhatsApp (the Publish tab):
  1. Click Connect WhatsApp Business Account and follow Meta’s sign-up. You can use an existing account or create one.
  2. Select the phone number your customers will message, or add a new one.
  3. Click Confirm publish.
The home screen now says Live on +44…. Anyone who messages that number talks to your assistant.
A number that’s already on the WhatsApp app has to be removed from it first. See Connect WhatsApp.

7. Add WhatsApp to your store

Open the Storefront tab. Each option opens Shopify’s theme editor with the block ready to place, so there’s no code to edit. Under Wording, set the link text and the message customers start with. Use [product] and [url] so the agent knows which product they were looking at:
To take a block down, remove or disable it in the theme editor.
Using a headless storefront? The links are plain wa.me URLs. In the Wassist dashboard, Integrations → Shopify → your store → Headless has ready-made HTML and React snippets with your number and message filled in.

What your assistant can do

It searches your live catalogue and best-sellers, and replies with product details and links. “Something warm for hiking under £80?”, “What’s popular right now?”
Shipping, returns, privacy and terms come from your Shopify policies. FAQs come from your Online Store pages. Edit them in Shopify and the agent follows within the hour.
When a customer asks about an order, the agent sends a Log in button. They sign in to their account on your store, and the agent can then read their latest order and order history. Customers who shopped with several emails can link each account.Wassist only uses the login to confirm who the customer is. Customers who send /reset are logged out and forgotten.
Connect Gorgias, eDesk or the WhatsApp Business app under Support Handoff on the agent’s Capabilities page. The agent passes tricky conversations to a person, with the full thread.
Add your own APIs, MCP connectors or installed Apps, for example loyalty points, reviews or bookings. See Configure tools.

Already using Wassist?

Pick I already have a Wassist account when the app asks, then click Connect account and sign in. The store joins your Wassist organization, so everyone in it can use it with their agents, and billing stays on your Wassist plan. Then give the store to an agent. You can do it in the app’s home screen, where you can create an agent for this store or connect an agent you already have. Or do it in the dashboard: open the agent, then Capabilities → Shopify Stores → Add Store. The agent picks up the catalogue, policy, login and order tools straight away. The Storefront tab works the same once the agent is on a number.

Troubleshooting

Finish signing in in the Wassist tab, then come back. The app checks every few seconds. If it’s still stuck, reload the app from Apps → Wassist in your Shopify admin.
Each step unlocks the next. Link your account, then subscribe, then publish. The storefront blocks only appear once your agent is live on a number.
The agent sees products that are published to your online store. Check the product is active and available on the Online Store sales channel.
Shopify limits older orders until it approves full order access for the app. Recent orders work in the meantime.
Remove the app from Settings → Apps and sales channels in Shopify. Your Shopify subscription ends, and the agent stops reading the store. Conversations stay in your Wassist account.
